"Me, personally, I think that the suits are somewhat of a metaphor. In the earlier seasons he wore the differnt, lighter-coloured suits which have slowly all been replaced with the single, dark-coloured suit. It could be somewhat representative of his mind, as his personality has gotten darker and, I would argue, more singly focused on catching Red John. After all, he didn't start sleepig in the CBI attic until season 3, and that's when the light suits started to disappear. I realise that I'm really pushig credibility here, it's just what I think."
