I need a little more time to hash out my thoughts about this episode, so I'll come back later more detailed.I couldn't wait on this: Jane is considering religon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my!!! I can hardly believe it!!!! When Jane tossed the flower into the ocean, obviously for his Angela and Charlotte, I thought I would come unglued! I'm not mad or anything, but this is so different for Jane. For Jane to physically do something that would imply his believing that Angela and Charlotte are somewhere and that he is sending a message to them.....all I can say is WOW!!! The look on Jane's face just about broke my heart!!! He NEEDED a hug right then and if I could have, I certainly would have hugged him through the televison. I liked how the scene before this last, great Jane/flower scene was of VanPelt saying that the killer wouldn't receive any pity in this world or in the next. What a segway!! Oh yea, Rigsby can do sooooooooo much better too. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I'm glad someone else thought the flower was for Jane's wife and child. I don't like Rigsby's new girlfriend either. It was a great episode. Poor Grace is really going to snap. I loved Jane and Lisbon walking on the beach. I loved the suspense. I never saw the two killers identity coming.Do you find this valuable? |

I went back and rewatched the scene when the Tea Shoppe woman told Jane she had put a flower in the ocean for the girl. She said it was an old island custom in which a message is sent to "your people." Then she proceeded to say that the girl wasn't family, but then asked Jane if he thought it would still work. To which he says, "Well, it can't hurt." From that reply Jane may still be on the fence about the afterlife, but he is toying with the possibility, at least and that is HUGE for Jane! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Many gratuitous shots of SB Being. Physically. Beautifful. Breathe...just breathe...Okay. So maelstrom of non-connected thoughts re the throwing of the flower into the ocean: What a moment. The entire ep just meandering along, then suddenly we're struck with that. Nothing OTT - a short walk, a throw of the flower, a moment to look, (and break my heart in two), turn and walk away. I felt like an intruder watching something intimate, that really wasn't my business. We know Jane loves the ocean. He said so in this ep. 'Beautiful', his eyes wistful. In the notorious ep where Kristina Frye-in-hell, (just jokes) tells him about his daughter, he mentions that the constant sound of office noise reminds him of the ocean and helps him sleep. So he's already in an environment he loves, one conducive to nostalgia? I guess you'd call it. The old lady at the tea shop brings up his achilles heel - she says, 'you made me feel rather guilty this morning...' Hello. He can relate to guilt. She also makes him an amazing cup of tea and cake. He's in a right frame. Then she drops the doozy. 'I feel better. I feel I did...Something...to give that girl peace.' I don't think the important words are about 'peace' so much as I think they're about Feeling Better and Doing Something. Jane has such a hunger to 'feel better' - and I don't mean that in a self-indulgent way. At the same time he thinks he doesn't deserve to feel better, being overwhelmed and driven by guilt. The old woman said that doing 'something' made her 'feel better.' So he did something. Finally. After all these years. For me, this wasn't J coming to any place of religion, or belief or even taking a step of faith. It was a monumental act of hope and of doing; and the very first sign of his opening the door to allow healing in. Do you find this valuable? |

On a surface level he's wanting to bring peace to his family who, because of him, died terrifying deaths. I hope he starts forgiving himself. I'm looking for the day when that ring isn't there any more. What an ep that will be. Hope the writers don't leave it till the very last ep. Strange that while J's mellowing, van Pelt's seething. She's in such denial she says to L, " I did nothing wrong.' Oh dear. You would think that with the team being under such scrutiny - where? - L would be stamping her little foot, but no, just gives G a warning of sorts. Think the line between friend and boss is starting to blur. Godz I hope they do something a bit more gutsy with Rigsby this year. I'm still getting over the last ep, when they made him look like a boofy twerp with that 'melanoma' carp scam of J's. Anyone who's worked with J for years, should've known J was conning. Then to say, 'run along' to him. Agh!!! I know it was said benignly, almost Dad to child, but R does come off looking a little dim. Please. He's such a natural hero - running into burning houses, while others look on - let him be one for pity's sake. What a ramble... Did I mention the gratuitous shots of Mr. Baker? This episode was only kind of so-so for me. Enjoyed the shots of Jane walking the beach and throwing the flower into the ocean, but the murder mystery was not all that interesting. I was hoping for something exciting since the term "island fever" was used to promote the episode, but it wasn't so exciting after all. On a side note, it looks like VanPelt is ripe for recruitment by Red John. Do you find this valuable? |

The ep just drifted gently along to a conclusion, didn't it, until the final moment when J threw the flower and my heart into deep water. Ew, not van Pelt and RJ! Aw naw! In my imagination I see a much better solution for van Pelt's woes, than being an RJ operative. I think since Jane, indirectly, got her into this state, he should be responsible for getting her out. I like the notion of his using his skills as a psychologist, hypnotist, mentalist, friend, with Grace in order to help her. Hhmmm. *raises eyebrows coquettishly* Not in a sexual way of course, since he's not human like that any more, having curbed such base desires these many long years. Why does the word cilice spring to mind... $%&^@!! @ Princess, Loved your thoughts! Always do... It occurred that the barb placed by Wainwright might have had a positive effect on Jane. Maybe J is jolted enough to realize he has to start changing... maybe W will be his saviour rather than his destroyer...interesting J's had this little Epiphany right after the Wainwright evaluation... @hypnoclue, I love that you thought about how Jane loves the ocean. He is such a sensory-oriented person and with the ocean being a part of this "beginning of healing" process, was just perfect! I don't think Jane is consciously looking for a religion, but for him to even go along with something that required the assumption that there is an afterlife is just so different for him. If he can accept an afterlife, then he could go down the road to the idea of forgiveness and finally forgive himself. It's just that this first colossal step could lead to healing. Wow is all I can say. Every time I think about this scene, it just floors me...it's that huge!! Do you find this valuable? |

So here's some other things I noticed in this wonderful episode:In the beginning, I just adored seeing Jane looking at the monarch butterfly. He had that curious look on his face like a little boy would have the first time he had seen a butterfly. There is a sweet innocence in Patrick. I really think he tries to take in everything around him....his surroundings, nature, science, the arts....you get the idea. I think he took so much for granted and didn't appreciate the little things in his life when he was a "psychic" that he just doesn't pass up those little fascinating moments now. The Rock....another little something that just makes me love Jane all the more. While walking on the beach with Lisbon searching for a piece of driftwood privy to the case, Jane finds a pretty rock and gives it to Lisbon. He tells her that she should make a necklace out of it and that should be her "restful hobby." What I liked about this was that it shows that Jane cares for Lisbon and he wants the best for her. It was also about the sweetest thing ever!!!! I soooooooooo hope to see that rock again, on a necklace perhaps!!! VanPelt. Oh my is the troublemaker in VP ever coming out! She needs help in the worst way. While I like that she's not as gullible and naive as she was before O'Laughlin, I don't like all the anger that is spilling out of her. She's not making very good decisions right now. This could ruin her if she doesn't get a handle on things. I can't help but wonder if more happened during the squabble over the keys between VP and Rigs. When Rigsby stopped trying to get the keys from VP, he smiled a very fake smile and it was like at that moment he realized that it’s not his job in life to take care of VP and that he must move on with his life…almost like he was thinking, "What am I doing? I know better than this. I need to move on." Do you find this valuable? |

More about VanPelt....will she deal with all this anger of hers; will she use this anger to help Jane go against RJ since he had O'Laughlin use her for info; or will this anger drive her to hate Jane since it is because of him that RJ messed with her life?? Hmmmm...

Yep Princess, it was a huge moment for Jane, to throw that flower into the ocean. For me, that whole ep was rather haunting. Gentle and moving, like the piece of driftwood on the tide, just ebbing and flowing, until that moment when we saw J's back, as he approached the water. Then that simple little act of saying, I want to feel better after all these terrible years. It almost floored me too!! As you said, even the Jane and the Butterfly moment was gentle, wonder-ful. Again the moon comes into play. Such a synergy with J and the moon....attractions and tractive forces and all that. For a fake psychic he shows great interest in the moon... The character of Jane is one of the most complex I've seen on teev. This nasty-piece-of-work fake psychic, changed and haunted by a past from which he'll never escape, but able to kill with little remorse, who uses and abuses innocent people to catch killers. One of the great characters. And SB is magnificent in capturing who he is. I'm in awe of his acting. (Yeah, shut up, I'm in awe of that too, hehe!!) Yeah this VP storyline is full of potential. Although could the team be any more obtuse in not recognizing her decline into Seriously Troubled? Only Rigsby blessim has had any insight on the matter. Who'da thunk. Lisbon says, 'Can I count on you?' Well, he ll no, you can't, you silly woman. She's in all sorts of pain and getting worse and needs Professional help. So where's Wainwright when you need him. Although he'd probably just blurt out, You're suffering from PTSD and I'll adjust accordingly, hehe! Re Jane and the necklace. J has spoken to L previously about her high stress levels and she's uber-stressed right now. Advice on de-stressing, to someone he cares for, as you said. Have to say I'm loving this season so far. The real San Felix island is off the coast of Chille. Wonder why the writers called the imaginary island that? It would have had to be fairly close to the CBI location for them to travel back and forth.
