Jane Question
May 22 2011, 12:46 AM EDT | Post edited: May 22 2011, 12:46 AM EDT
This is my first post!

My question: How did Jane become so distinguished (tea drinking, suit wearing, knowledgable in classic music and everything else) when he was raised as a part of a traveling carnival? I don't recall that he went to graduate school or was raised a part of the British monarchy! Lol!

I think he drunk tea and wore suits to give him the physic image. Maybe he carries it on to make him seem different in that unusual Patrick Jane we we all love! Do you find this valuable?

Patrick's father encouraged him to observe and understand people- the better to scam money out of carnival patrons. Being highly intelligent and ambitious, Patrick used his skills of observation to figure out how to make himself into the person he wanted and needed to be in order to raise his standard of living.

I think he does such things because he wishes to be civilised. As he says in season 3 episode 24, "Civilised." when he is going to get hightower some tea. He dresses extremely civilised, and drinks tea, classical music, and i have very deep thoughts regarding this. I believe he does it because as you know, before his wife and child were murdered he wore shiny ties and rich looking suits, lived the high life. I think after they were murdered, and after his spell in the mental institution, he clings to such things such as these civil behaviours to encourage his sanity. I think i heard somewhere that people sometimes feel they depend on repeating certain behaviours to be able to stand life? Perhaps these are his repetitions... we notice how as they get closer to finding red john his obsession with tea grows and becomes more obvious. Do you find this valuable?

Since he was little he learned to observe and is very smart.
He pulled cons on rich, classy people and he might have noticed different things there, yet he dosent show much respect for very rich shallow people.
But maybe because he was raised in a carney world and he wanted to escape from there he just struggled and studied, research himself . We often see Jane reading a book on his couch. Reading books develops your culture.

Nice analysis there. Jane is a truly complex, amazing character in so many ways. Gotta give kudos again to Bruno/the writers for creating him, and of course to Simon Baker for embodying him and moulding him so perfectly.
