I think a main strength, not included in his profile, of Red John, is his ability to elude capture. This is what gives him the confidence to taunt both the Police and Patrick. Additionally, it means that he, (Red John) could be anyone, especially and including someone working within law enforcement.
Storylines to date imply the possibility although Patrick hasn't yet shown any indication of how he suspects Red John is camouflaging himself.
Also could Red John really be two people, one working within law enforcement and the other committing the murders in a kind of wierd criminal partnership? 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
