There are sparks between Lisbon & Jane. Where's the fire?
Apr 29 2010, 4:16 PM EDT
Something is holding Jane back from coupling with Lisbon, unlike Lisbon, whose eyes frequently widen when Jane survives a close call an who seems ready and willing. So what is holding Jane back.? Several things supported by plot devices: First, the scriptwriters have extracted the same plot device into the Mentalist (as well as the general framework) as we saw in Monk for many years. Each had a wife murdered about 5 or 6 years earlier, ostensibly due to the indirect faults of Jane and of Monk in their respective series. This sets up there "He's not ready to be with another person". Second, both characters demonstrated their understandable mental instabilities, again outside the script, by having done time at a mental institution. In this regard Lisbon, much younger than Jane, may be the one who wants to "do it til we do it again" with Jane's attraction merely due to lust, recognized by Jane as such. I have written under the Jane character discussion of a reason for being stand-offish that has nothing to do with the above reasons and everything to do with Jane's propensity and great skill in fooling people about who he is - he was after a TV psychic whose stock in trade is in deceiving or misleading people, even though he does it with great affability and suaveness. The bombshell plot turn that would turn the US broadcast television conglomerate upside down and would have to wait for the last episodes of the final year of the show, for reasons you can read about in my comments about Jane under "Characters". 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?
