The Mentalist

So what is a mentalist I hear you all ask?
A very good question and no easy task,
To answer correctly in a “mentalist” way,
It’s someone who reads people, uses hypnotism and suggestion they say.

On the show he was a con-man, a fake psychic on TV,
He flaunted his fake gift for all to see,
A terrible price he paid for his pride,
His wife and daughter had nowhere to hide,
When Red John came calling and killed them to say,
That no one could taunt him and get clean away.

Patrick Jane now is grieving and conceals his pain well,
He uses his gifts of observance to tell,
If people are lying or covering up,
While he stands around grinning and holding his cup,
Of tea that he sips as he takes everything in,
Be sure he’ll find out if you’ve committed a sin.

He uses psychology carefully applied,
To get to the truth when people have lied,
He checks out their pulse for signs of distress,
He breaks all the rules one by one, more or less.

His colleagues all like him despite what they say,
They work well together in their own special way,
Agent Cho is the straight man, superstitious, retrained,
Whilst Agent Lisbon is by the book and often looks strained.

Agent Grace Van Pelt’s a believer, who is calm, young and keen,
Agent Rigsby is in love with her, she’s the prettiest girl he’s seen,
As to the bad guys really, they do not stand a chance,
Because Patrick Jane can read them, sometimes in one glance.

Yet the one he wants to get most eludes him ever more,
Red John the dreaded killer, he’ll catch one day for sure,
Until that day he’ll hunt him, however long it takes,
To revenge the dreadful murder that to every day he wakes.
