THE MENTALIST...

I joined this wiki because
:I love The Mentalist and anything that Simon Baker is in.

The first episode of The Mentalist I watched:The Pilot, I've watched them all several times.

What I like about The Mentalist:Obviously Simon Baker, but I really like the dynamic between the cast members and the humour. Patrick Jane is great, I'd love to work with someone like that.

Favorite The Mentalist Character(s):Patrick Jane.

Favorite The Mentalist Cast Member(s): Simon Baker, Owain Yeoman, Robin Tunney et al. I like them all, they are all really nice but obviously Simon is my absolute favourite if I have to pick one.

Favorite The Mentalist Season(s): Season One so far, we haven't seen Season Two yet!!
Favorite The Mentalist Episode(s): I have a lot, the Pilot was great, Red John's Friends, oh!! I love them all!

Favorite The Mentalist Quote(s):There are a lot of these!! I liked the episode where Patrick asked Rigsby and Van Pelt to phone the mafia guy and ask for Mary!!

What else!! Well I've written a Mentalist Poem (which is on here somewhere!) and poems on almost all the cast (I've got to do Minelli).

Here is my first attempt at some fanfiction!! Let's hope I improve!!

Scarlet Dreams Scene One Patrick Jane lay reposed, eyes closed, mind alert on his couch at the CBI office. A newspaper was draped across his face to hide the customary smirk beneath and Rigsby and Van Pelt exchanged furtive glances across the room, as they thought unnoticed. Lisbon had just banged the door to her office and seemed to be shouting into thin air. “**** it!” she exclaimed at no one in particular. “Everything all right boss?” Rigsby asked cautiously, half expecting to have his head bitten off. “No, everything is far from all right!” Lisbon retorted angrily, as yet not giving a reason. Patrick Jane arose gently lifting the paper from his face and turning his charming grin on the scowling Lisbon. “Never mind, we don’t have to play by the book! Whoever wrote that thing anyway?” he blurted complacently. “**** it Jane, how did you know? No don’t answer that!! There are rules for God’s sake and we’re supposed to play by them.” “Where’s the fun in that!” he smirked. Cho now appeared from the next room, holding a file. “I’ve got that information you requested, Boss. It appears that the young lady in question was adopted.” “Adopted! So do we have any information on the real parents?” Lisbon asked turning her back on a still grinning Jane. “Yes, well the mother. One Laura Morgan from Oregon arrested for drug offences, underage prostitution, and a long list of petty crimes. Had the child at 16, father unknown. She died of a drug overdose last year.” “Any way of finding out who the father is?” “I shouldn’t think so boss, but I’ll get on to it right away.” Cho walked the few steps to his desk sat down and busied himself on the computer. Lisbon looked suspiciously at Jane and retreated to her office, closing the door tightly behind her. She wasn’t in the mood to argue with Patrick, not today of all days. Van Pelt had been working on gathering some background information on the adoptive parents. She was keen to tell Lisbon what she’d found out, but Rigsby seemed intent on diverting her attention and it was starting to distract her. She liked Rigsby, he was a little annoying at times, but she couldn’t help being attracted to him. Right now though, she was trying her best to ignore him. Patrick Jane observant as ever, had picked up on the tension and had turned his grin on Van Pelt. “Lover’s tiff, Van Pelt!” “What! No! she blurted defensively, “I’ve just got the information back on the Gardiners, it appears Mr Gardner has a somewhat chequered past.” “Trying, to divert my attention! I know that trick, come on spill! So what’s Rigsby done to upset you?” Jane said advancing dangerously close to a nervous Van Pelt. He looked mischievously into her eyes positioning himself between her and the computer screen. “Nothing,” her cheeks coloured and she turned away to avert Jane’s gaze. “Be truthful!” Jane goaded, taking hold of her now clammy hand, whilst placing the other on her shoulder. “Leave her alone,” Rigsby snapped. “I haven’t done anything; at least I don’t think I have. Have I?” He looked rather worried now. “No, of course not! But getting back to the Gardiners.” Jane flashed a playful grin at Van Pelt and Rigsby and went to fetch himself a cup of tea, “You people are no fun!” he chortled. “What was that about the Gardiners?” Rigsby asked furtively adding, “I didn’t upset you did I?” “No, why would you have? Mr Gardiner has done some time for embezzlement it would appear, there’s not much to tell about Mrs Gardner though. She’s a college librarian and she sings in the church choir.” “Those are the one’s you have to watch out for!” Jane piped in. Grace shrugged her shoulders; it was no use arguing with Jane. He didn’t have faith in anything he couldn’t feel or touch. Besides Mrs Gardiner had seemed nice. Scene Two The house itself was an old building as they went inside it smelt of neglect, that cold damp musty smell of an old house long abandoned. Jane, Lisbon and Van Pelt climbed the stairs cautiously, they were rather narrow and steep and the banister had rotted away in places making it unsafe. Mind your step Jane warned as he almost tripped on a lump of rotted wood. They reached the top at last and proceeded to enter each room. The phone call had said that the body would be found in one of the rooms at the back of the house. It was dark on the landing, remnants of crimson paint peeled from the walls and that smell, the putrid smell of death lingered offensively in the air. Lisbon almost wretched as they proceeded tentatively to a black door, opening it to reveal the horrors within. Inside just as the phone call had said there would be, a smiling red face greeted them on the wall and as they turned their head’s slowly, there on the bed lay a body of a young woman. She had been in her early twenties by the look of her and had light brown hair and light blue eyes that now stared blankly, lifelessly, into space. She had been killed in the usual way by cutting and her toe nails had been painted red with blood. She had not been dead long as rigour mortis had not yet set in; but long enough Jane thought that the killer was likely to be far enough away as to be out of reach. His heart pounded and tears welled in his eyes as he thought about it, but he brushed them aside as best he could and remarked coldly. “It’s him, it’s Red John this time. Everything is just right. He wanted me to see this, I can feel it!” “Take it easy, Jane. I know how you feel about Red John and we will catch him. Just promise me you won’t do anything stupid!” “You know that’s the one thing I can never promise. I told you what I’m going to do to him when we catch him and nothing’s changed.” “Except that we all care about you too much to let you,” Lisbon retorted warmly but assertively. Jane grinned at her, but it was a cold emotionless grin and the pain in his eyes was apparent. “The forensics will be here soon,” Van Pelt announced, “We’d best not touch anything until they’ve done their bit.” Jane was wandering around the room oblivious to anything, scouring everything closely for the slightest clue. Red John was a worthy adversary though, and if he had left a few crumbs of evidence you could be sure it was purely to reel Jane in to his closely nit web. “She played the guitar,” observed Jane looking closely at her fingers. “Why would you say that?” asked Lisbon looking puzzled. Jane always knew everything. “You see the marks on these fingertips and the short nails,” it’s obvious!!” “To you may be!” Lisbon sneered. “Well my dear, you need to look more closely. She’s a successful artist by all accounts. There are traces of acrylic paint under her fingernails and you can still smell it faintly, plus her clothes say that she’s earning enough money. Although, she could have got that some other way.” By now, no one was listening. The forensics had arrived and were busily taking photos and bagging things up. “What about the phone call?” Lisbon asked Van Pelt, “Have you heard from Rigsby yet?” “No, but I’ll ring now if you like?” Van Pelt pulled out her phone and called Rigsby. “Any news on that call, do we know who made it yet?” “As a matter of fact, Cho and I are on our way there now,” Rigsby sounded pleased with himself as Cho drove them towards the Gardiner’s house. Scene Three Rigsby and Cho arrived at the Gardiner’s house. It was a large house, surrounded by extensive grounds in the leafy suburbs of Sacramento. “Nice place,” Cho observed. “Yeah, they’re obviously not short of a few bucks!” “Well, let’s get inside and check things out,” Cho replied closing the car door and walking towards the gate. He pressed the button on the intercom system and waited for an answer. “Please state your business,” the voice said coldly. “We’re from the CBI, and we’re here about a murder.” The buzzer sounded and the gate opened, Cho and Rigsby jumped back in the car and drove up to the house. As they approached the door it opened and they were shown inside by a servant. Mrs Gardiner, a well-dressed lady in her mid-forties, was in the study sitting at her desk, but she suggested that they remove to the sitting room for comfort. “Would you like some tea and cake, gentlemen?” she asked politely. “No thank you Ma'am,” Cho replied Rigsby who was hungry as always, replied cheerfully, “That would be lovely, thank you Ma'am.” Cho looked at him and shrugged, “What!” exclaimed Rigsby, “Aren’t you hungry?” “Take a seat gentleman,” said Mrs Gardiner gesturing that they should sit on the sofa opposite. Rigsby and Cho sat down; it was a comfortable sofa of dark red leather. The rooms themselves were large, light and airy and yet the house had a warm lived in feel to it. “So what gentlemen can I do to help you? I assure you, I know nothing about any murder.” “Well Ma'am, someone who lives here certainly does. We traced a call made to the police to this address. The call was about the murder of a young woman, and they found the body right where they were told it would be,” said Rigsby looking more serious now. “Goodness me, I think there must be some mistake. No one has left this house all day and I can’t think how that can be possible.” “Who lives here with you Ma'am? Cho asked. “My husband of course, but he’s at work and my daughter Rachel.” “Is she here now Ma'am? We need to speak to her too,” Cho asked looking around at the antiques and elaborate drapes at the windows. It was like a treasure trove in here, he thought. “She’s upstairs, she didn’t go to school today she hardly slept last night. She’s been having the most dreadful nightmares.” “Can you go and get her, please Ma'am? I’m really sorry, but we do need to speak to her,” Rigsby said softly, sipping a cup of tea that he had just been brought and reaching for some cake. Mrs Gardiner rang a bell and a servant came, “Can you please, go and ask Rachel to come down please, Lizzy.” “Certainly Ma'am,” replied the young servant girl leaving the room hurriedly. It was barely a minute before Lizzy returned with Rachel a little girl of eight and very small and pretty. Not at all what Cho and Rigsby were expecting. “You’ve got to be kidding!” Rigsby whispered to Cho. Mrs Gardiner stood up and told Rachel to come and sit by her and answer the nice men’s questions. Rachel looked at Cho and Rigsby nervously, and then lifted her eyes to Rigsby, who had the kindest face of the two she thought. “I suppose you want to know about the murder she said?” Rigsby didn’t know what to say, he hadn’t expected her to know anything. He half thought that Red John had directed the call to this address as a red herring. “What can you tell us about it?” Rigsby asked her gently. “I can tell you what I saw, in my dream that is. They come true you see, the bad one’s at least. They always do, that’s why I made the call. I knew you’d find her.” Mrs Gardiner looked shocked and looked at Cho and Rigsby who were both staring blankly at the little girl. Could she really see things in her dreams or had she been there when the murder took place? They needed Jane here now; he’d know if she was telling the truth, she seemed to be but how could she be? Mrs Gardiner was agitated, “I think Rachel must be mistaken, she’s very tired and she doesn’t know what’s she’s saying.” “But I do,” Rachel piped up, “I do, I only wish that I didn’t. He scares me, that man, he’s evil.” “Who? Who scares you?” Cho asked taking out a notebook. “Him! I don’t know his name; he draws faces on the wall! Faces in blood and he’s full of hate. He’s so angry, and his eyes they frighten me!” “What does he look like?” asked Rigsby listening intently all of a sudden. “Really gentlemen, surely you can see my daughter didn’t have anything to do with it. How can she have?” Mrs Gardiner was beginning to look uncomfortable. “Well she knew where the body would be and that’s not nothing Ma'am,” Cho replied. “I’m afraid we are going to have to take her to the station for further questioning, you’ll have to be present of course and if you have a lawyer I suggest you call them now.” Scene Four Jane had returned from the crime scene with Lisbon and Van Pelt who were now busy researching the identity of the dead girl. Patrick was pacing up and down, staring intently in front of him. He had the look of a man in torment, his eyes were sad yet behind the sadness lingered an intense hatred and desire for revenge. Red John was out there, he was close, so close that Jane could almost taste him; but not so close as to be within easy reach. Rigsby and Cho arrived with Rachel and Mrs Gardiner and Cho took them both into the interview room. “Jane,” Lisbon called out, “Don’t you dare go near that girl.” Patrick was not listening though; he had closed his ears and only stared blankly at the child as she walked past him. She was so small, so innocent yet it was as if she could see into his soul. He walked slowly and quietly into the room where Cho was interviewing Rachel with Mrs Gardiner present. “Excuse me,” he asked gravely, “Would you mind if I sit?” “Who are you?” asked Mrs Gardiner indignantly, but with a changing manner as Jane smiled gently and turned on the charm. “I’m Patrick Jane, I’m a consultant with the CBI, and you must be Mrs Gardiner, I’m very pleased to meet you.” He offered her his hand and flashing another dazzling smile he lowered her defences. “I suppose,” she said as he pulled up a chair, “that, that would be all right.” Cho began questioning Rachel who sat, with her hands placed nervously in her lap, her eyes drawn to Patrick Jane’s. “So when did these dreams start?” Cho had just asked her, but she still looked at Jane and spoke to him, “You’re family, I’m so sorry she said. I saw what happened to them. It was him, that man, the same man that killed her, that woman.” Jane didn’t reply, he only studied her body language looking for clues. She appeared to be telling the truth, but he couldn’t be sure, his grief and anger were clouding his judgement and he tried to focus. “Yes,” he said at last, “this man killed my wife and child, that’s why I’m here. I want to catch him, so if you know anything, anything at all tell us. Tell us everything.” As he spoke he took hold of her hand gently and put the other on her shoulder, Mrs Gardiner looked at him disapprovingly, but his eyes were tearful and gentle so she said nothing. Cho asked his question again. “I asked you when the dreams started; can you tell me that now Rachel?” His manner was firm, but gentler than normal, she was such a pretty little girl that no one wanted to upset her. “It was years ago now, I was very little but I still have dreams about what happened in the past. I get the new ones when he kills or hurts someone else.” “So how many dreams have you had?” Cho continued. “Plenty, I get them all the time; he’s always in my head. He won’t seem to go.” “Who? Who is in your head?” Jane asked “A man, a bad man, I told them, he frightens me. He’s evil.” “Have you seen this man, Rachel? What does he look like?” “He’s older, much older than you, his eyes they’re green and full of hate; but he looks like you some how. He could be your father,” she replied. Jane looked shocked, everything about Rachel told him that she was telling the truth but how could she be, how could this man look like him? He was choked, lost for words for the first time in his life and he didn’t believe in psychics so how could he believe what she was saying? She must have been there, but how? Normally, he would have threatened any witness with information about Red John, but she was just a little girl and that would make him a monster. Cho resumed his questions coldly, “So this dream, when did you have it?” “Last night, I phoned as soon as I could. I hoped you’d find her alive. Before he killed her.” Mrs Gardiner was beside herself, she had no idea what was happening. How could her daughter have known about the murder, how did she know about Patrick’s family? She was so young when it happened. It was all very strange. Mrs Gardiner’s lawyer had arrived and after a brief discussion Rachel was allowed to go home with her mother. She looked intently at Patrick as she left, studying his face as if to memorise every line and detail. Jane and Cho stood outside the interview room in silence for a minute, before Cho finally spoke. “So what do you think Jane?” “Honestly, I think she’s telling the truth. She couldn’t have been there when any of the victims were killed though.” “So how does she know so much?” “She’s either psychic which I doubt or she’s met Red John and he told her. My guess is she knows him; he’s someone close to her. We need to check out her father, uncles, everyone connected to the family.” “Do you think so?” Cho seemed unsure, “I really think this girl could be the real deal, she freaks me out. The way she looked at you, too.” “Jane!! If you’ve been in that interview again, I’m going to skin you!!” Lisbon’s angry voice pierced the air; Patrick darted into the male cloakroom to avoid her. She reached the spot where Cho was standing and asked suspiciously, “Cho, have you seen Jane? Was he in there with you?” Cho squirmed and tried to avoid eye contact. “I think he went to the little boy’s room, must have been something he ate. He’s been in there ages!” he lied. “If you’re lying to me…,” Lisbon’s lip curled as she spoke, but she was interrupted by a gentle pat on the shoulder and warm breath on her cheek. “Now, now, my dear, you really should learn to be more trusting!” It was Jane, she turned around and there he was standing behind her grinning as usual. “I must have done something really bad in my last life to deserve you!” she muttered. “Naw! But if you’re not careful, you’ll come back as a slug!” Lisbon swung round and slapped Jane across the back of the head angrily. “Aw! What did you do that for?” he whined childishly. “Well, if I’m going to come back as a slug, I may as well do something to deserve it!” Patrick rubbed his head, and Lisbon eyed him suspiciously. “You were in there, weren’t you?” she stared right into his eyes. “Um! Well yeah, but let me explain!” he said whilst averting another smack. “I don’t want to hear it!! Don’t even go there. Just stay out of my sight until I’ve calmed down and don’t whatever you do go anywhere near that girl again. If you do you may not live to regret it. I mean it Jane,” she sounded deadly serious now and Jane retreated quietly to his couch still rubbing his head and looking to Van Pelt for sympathy. “She hit me!” he said out loud to anyone who’d listen. “You probably deserved it,” Rigsby replied, but Grace looked at him sympathetically, “So what did you do?” she asked “Nothing!! Well, nothing I haven’t done before!” Both Rigsby and Van Pelt looked at each other and said in unison, “You crashed the interview again then?” “Well, yes!” He was trying to look cheerful, but his tone said otherwise. This case was too close to his heart and he lay down placed the paper back over his face and this time hid his tears. He wanted to get Red John so badly, but Lisbon had been told that they weren’t to pursue the case. There was no evidence to link the child to Red John and she had clearly just had a bad dream as far as the heads of the department were concerned. Lisbon had continued the search as far as she could but now they were going to have to stop and joking about it wasn’t going to help. The murder itself they had been allowed to pursue but there were no leads, other than those provided by Rachel. They had identified the victim as Moira Lewis an artist, just as Jane had predicted but other than that they had hit a brick wall. Something about this girl told him, that he needed to look into it further. He was just going to have to keep an eye on her himself.

Agent Bosco once was Lisbon's boss and a secret they both share,
He seems to get on well with her and he even seems to care,
Patrick has picked up on this and seems a little green,
He doesn't like Agent Bosco much, from what he's so far seen.
Bosco has the Red John case and Patrick wants to know,
What is going on with it, Bosco won't tell him though,
He's horrible to Patrick and he blames him for his wife,
Telling him it's his fault for all his personal strife,

But Patrick he keeps trying to get the upper hand,
If he isn't careful though, he might end up getting canned!
He changes Bosco's passwords to try and get to know,
What he has found out so far because he'll never show,
Him anything about the case he keeps close to his chest,
So Patrick plants a bug to listen, thinking he knows best.

It is all about to backfire now, as Patrick has been spying,
And Bosco orders his arrest, because he keeps on trying,
To find out what he wants to know, he'll never stop you see,
But Lisbon blackmails Bosco to make him set him free.
Poor Patrick he had put in jail, which made everyone quite mad,
They may find Patrick aggravating, but they know he isn't bad,
So Bosco he had better watch, his back if he upsets,
All the team and other staff or he may soon have regrets!

Van Pelt

Van Pelt is a believer and the rookie of the team,
Whenever she can find a lead, she's like that cat that got the cream!
She's pretty and she's caring and she tries her best to be,
A useful member of the team which she is, it's plain to see,

Rigsby is in love with her and she's in love with him,
But work relationships aren't allowed, yet his chances aren't that slim!
As he kissed her when he was hypnotised and she kissed him back as well,
So perhaps they'll get together soon, they certainly seem to gel.

Yet I wonder what her secret is, will we ever get to know,
I bet that Patrick's guessed at it, but he hasn't let it show,
He's probed her and suggested that she keeps it deep inside,
I wonder what on earth it is, that she seems to want to hide.

At last it's finally happened and Wayne and Grace they kiss,
It's touching and it's lovely to see them is sheer bliss,
Van Pelt tries hard to resist the love, that she feels deep inside,
She's worked so hard to be there and 'til now she's tried to hide,
Her love for dear sweet Rigsby, who adores her oh so much,
He just had to pluck up the courage, until now it was look don't touch!
But the rules are plain and simple and agents cannot date,
So what will happen now then, have they sealed their fate?
Will one of them be forced to leave, Grace will likely go,
But we will have to wait and see, I hope it isn't so!
