Someone please help!! This last summer I read that the Mentalist was not renewed for the new upcoming season. Now I see that it has been renewed and placed in the slot of the now defunct CSI Miami, which happens to be the worst slot in TV Land after the football games. It is the slot that CBS sends shows to die a slow death because the show is never on at the proper time as the games always run long. Am I crazy? Wasn't The Mentalist cancelled? What gives? Dan.....PS. Glad to see it come back! :)

Okay, I believe that the real Red John is Jane’s unknown child. This child’s name is Dave. Dave was locked in a closet at age 4. Jane’s wife thought that Dave died and they never spoke of him again. The wife thought that Dave was dead because Jane hypnotized her.
One fateful day Dave fought back. Jane came to feed Dave baby food (even though he wasn’t a baby anymore) and Dave bit him on the ankle and wouldn’t let go. Jane couldn’t pry him off with his hands, so he went down to the basement to get a crowbar to beat Dave. When Jane looked down Dave was no longer attached to his ankle. Jane heard Dave’s footsteps, got scared, and dropped the crowbar.
As soon as Jane dropped the crowbar, he was brutally hit with a foldable chair. Jane got really bad amnesia for months (while this was going on Jane’s wife was at the supermarket). Also when Jane finally regained his memory all memory of his son, Dave, were gone.
In the fifth season of The Mentalist, Jane will cross paths with Dave and it was not a happy reunion. Dave approached Jane and said (in a third person point of view) “Hey Patty J. Remember Dave? Because Dave remembers you!” Then Dave preceded to hand Jane a picture of the closet, in which he was locked in. Then Dave walked away. Jane had a sliver of recognition towards both Dave and the closet.
